Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Kentingan, Solo, officially open the emission-free area, the UNS Emission-Free Day program is enforced for one day on the first Friday of every month, starting on Friday, 3 July 2020, this program is officially launched by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho. The resolution from UNS Emission-Free Day refers to the substance of regulation of the UNS’s Rector, Number 827A/UN27/2013 on 20 September 2013. regarding guidelines for managing an environmentally friendly campus (Green Campus) and Instruction of the Rector of UNS Number 6 of 2016 dated June 2, 2016, regarding environmentally friendly transportation on the UNS.
Based on the UNS Rector's letter Number 44/UN27/SE/2020, it is explained that this program obtains every Friday of the first week (one day in a month). The emission-Free Day in UNS still has the goal of giving the earth a chance to rest for one day in a month. It is certainly a simple message but has a deep meaning because we all know that the earth never really feels 'rest'.
Even every year, on September 21, the world commemorates Emissions Free Day. Initially, in March 2008, Halifax, Nova Scotia – a province in eastern Canada, called on the world to stop consuming fossil fuels for one day every September 21. Running to this day, Emission-Free Day still has the goal of giving the earth a chance to rest for one day a year. Certainly, a simple message but with deep meaning, because we all know that the earth never really 'rests' as we were mentioned before. There are a lot of other positive impacts from this program that can be obtained by humans and it is worth preserving. We hope that this program - The Emission-Free Day will give a lot of impact on the UNS’s citizens.
